PLUS: FINMA Clears Retail Bitcoin ETF

Welcome back to The Warmup.
Happy Wednesday to everyone except $PAPER holders.

Here’s what we’re watching:
Market Snapshot
OCC Sets Stablecoin Rules
UNI Pennant Breakout Play
FINMA Clears Retail Bitcoin ETF

Market: Crypto leads the rally, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana pushing higher. U.S. equities are also green, while the dollar and volatility ease.

OCC Sets Stablecoin Rules

What’s going on:
The OCC published its final rules for stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act on Wednesday. The rules take effect January 18, 2027, requiring issuers to back tokens 1:1 with cash or short-term Treasuries and generally process redemptions within two business days.
The OCC also softened its approach to affiliate reward programs and replaced an automatic seven-day redemption extension after large outflows with one issuers must request.
What it means:
Stablecoin holders get clearer federal protections around reserves and redemptions, making it harder for issuers to operate with questionable backing or delay withdrawals.
Direct yield from issuers remains restricted, while third-party reward programs will be reviewed case by case. AML rules are still being finalized, but the direction is clear: stablecoins are getting more regulatory oversight, and checking an issuer's reserves and redemption terms still matters.

UNI Pennant Breakout Play

What’s going on:
UNI is consolidating around $7.40 after pulling back from $10.94, forming a symmetrical pennant that could signal the next move.
Key levels we’re watching:
Support: $6.90
Resistance: $7.77–$7.90
Breakout target: $8.37+
Invalidation: Below $6.90
Directional Bias: Cautiously bullish
What we’re waiting for:
Breakout above $7.90 with volume confirmation
A successful retest of resistance as support
Buyers defending $6.90 if consolidation continues
A confirmed breakout could open the door toward $8.37, while losing $6.90 weakens the setup.

FINMA Clears Retail Bitcoin ETF

What’s going on:
Switzerland’s financial regulator FINMA approved the country’s first ETF holding bitcoin directly and available to retail investors. Trading on the SIX Swiss Exchange is expected in November.
The fund received an exemption from standard diversification rules, citing bitcoin’s long trading history and deep liquidity.
It must still meet custody and risk-management requirements and clearly warn investors about volatility and potential losses.
What it means:
Swiss retail investors will have access to a regulated fund that holds actual bitcoin, rather than a product structured as debt.
The approval suggests regulators are becoming more comfortable fitting bitcoin into existing investment frameworks. For investors elsewhere, the immediate impact is limited, but it could provide a blueprint for other markets.
The fund is still high-risk, so fees, custody arrangements, and redemption terms are worth checking before investing.

Do clearer federal rules make you more likely to keep money in a major dollar stablecoin? |

Bitcoin hovered around $83,400, stuck in a range since late September, with 28-day volatility near 1.2%. Spot ETFs attracted more than $500 million earlier in the week, Strategy added 267 BTC, and markets priced in an 80% chance the Fed holds rates steady.
Meanwhile, institutional adoption kept moving forward. Standard Chartered agreed to bring a crypto custodian in-house, JPMorgan published its first 10-year bitcoin return assumption at 10% annually, and Switzerland cleared its first retail bitcoin fund.
The takeaway: institutional infrastructure continues to develop even as bitcoin trades sideways. With the Fed meeting and US midterms approaching, low volatility shouldn't be mistaken for low risk.
